1. A 2 week old female had
an enlarged liver and spleen and her skin was tinged yellow. Her vision was
impaired and she was not eating much nor was she vomiting. She also suffered
from regular seizures. Investigation revealed intra-cranial calcification.
2. A newly born male
presented with visual disturbances, deafness and hepatosplenomegaly.
His platelet count was 50 x 10^9/L. In addition, rashes were noticed on his
body. He suffers from SOB and is unable to finish feeding.
3. The CSF in a neonate
showed a raised WCC, consisting mainly of polymorphs. Culture showed pneumococcus.
4. A prematurely born 1 week
old infant presented with microcephaly, chorioretinitis and vesicular skin lesions. He also had
non-specific features of fever, irritability and failure to feed.
5. A 6 day old baby presented
with eyelid oedema and conjunctivitis with micropurulent
discharge. Cultures obtained using Dracon swabs were
positive for C. trachomatis.
